From June 22 to July 5, IG2 students from YCYW Beijing Yizhuang Campus flew to the UK right after putting down their IGCSE pens. At the YCYW Somerset Cultural Centre, they joined a two-week "Culture and University Launch Camp."

An IG2 student. She hasn't yet decided whether to pursue further studies in the UK. Previously, she only looked at rankings and admission rates when choosing schools, with almost no concept of "student experience."

    • 01 Cambridge University: Black Gowns and Rituals

Cambridge alumna Anna guided the students through the campus, sharing stories of late-night essays and formal college dinners. "Even within Cambridge, when choosing a college, you shouldn't just look at academic rankings—you need to consider the college's location, accommodation conditions, and cultural atmosphere—this determines your life for the next few years." It happened to be graduation day, and the students watched with envy as graduates crossed the lawn.

"We watched the graduates in their black gowns, and I found it incredibly ceremonial." — Coco

On the River Cam, the punter recited Xu Zhimo's poem, and a student quietly finished the next line.

    • 02 Oxford University: The Interview Is Not an Exam

Eloise, currently reading PPE at Oxford, sat on the lawn and reconstructed an interview detail for her juniors: the examiner handed her a philosophy article she had never read before and asked her to analyze its argument structure on the spot. "They don't want to hear you recite knowledge points. They want to see how you think."

"This made me realize that top university interviews aren't just about testing knowledge—they're about how you think." — Jessica

    • 03 UCL: Choose Yourself Before Your Major

At the Bloomsbury campus, Ally spent two hours talking with the students. She shared her own experience of "following the crowd into business, and almost missing my true passion for education," and explained how to judge whether a major truly suits you during Open Day.

"You can't choose a major based on rankings alone. You need to think clearly about what you truly love." — Coco

    • 04 University of Bath: A Sports Community on a Hill

What surprised the students most wasn't the scenery—it was the Sports Training Village: an Olympic-standard swimming pool, a fencing hall, and a climbing wall. Students pay an annual fee once and get access to all facilities. The interdisciplinary program combining Sports and Biology made Jessica rethink the meaning of "choosing a school."

"I used to only look at QS rankings. Now I open the website and click on 'Student Life' first." — Jessica

    • 05 Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama: When the Stage Lights Come On

Alumnus Ivor from YWIES Lingang led the students through the "actor's passage"—backstage dressing rooms, costume storage, and the lighting control room. In the rehearsal hall, he had the students step onto the stage to feel the warmth of the spotlight. Ivor's application experience shattered the students' fixed perception that "application = grades + personal statement." For arts schools, portfolio and live performance matter more. "When I applied, I didn't submit a transcript—I submitted a monologue video."

"The moment I walked into the theatre, I truly understood: one minute on stage takes ten years of practice." — Coco

    • 06 Beyond the Classroom: Sailing, Ancient Monuments, and Growth

Beyond university visits, the itinerary also included sailing certification and visits to British cultural landmarks.

During the two-day sailing certification, on day one someone capsized at the dock and got hit in the face by a rope; on day two, the same group sailed double-handed out of the harbor, completing independent voyages. Everyone earned certification.

Stonehenge transformed from a textbook image to a circle of massive stones before their eyes—a structure from 3000 BC whose purpose remains unexplained to this day. Dunster Castle had been inhabited for 800 years, and the previous owner's hunting rifle still hung above the fireplace.

"The UK is one option in my study plan. This study tour helped me understand the local situation, the language environment, and developed my independent living skills." — Coco

"In many UK schools, there are many different colleges. When applying, you don't just look at the 'university' ranking and major—you compare between colleges." — Jessica

Some remembered the poem on the Cam. Some saved the sunset photo from the top of Bath's hill. Someone wrote their first "truly their own" university plan on the flight home.
