At the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held during 5-10 November , the Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network (YCYW) was once again invited to exhibit in the Hong Kong Trade in Services Pavilion.
This year, YCYW presented a new vision of its 93-year educational journey — originating in Hong Kong, backed by the strength of the Motherland, and embracing the world.
In recent years, China has actively promoted the opening-up of education to the outside world by encouraging international educational exchanges and cooperation. The goal has been to cultivate a new generation of talents with international perspectives and skills in cross-cultural communication.
As the world's first national-level exhibition focusing on imports, the CIIE has become a major platform for China to establish a new pattern for development and to promote high-level opening-up.
Closely following the national policy, YCYW has demonstrated its unique advantages in integrating Chinese and Western education through participation in the CIIE, an international event. In addition, YCYW has also built an important platform for educational exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR, as well as between China and the world.
By introducing advanced international educational concepts and resources, and combining them with the actual situation of education in the Chinese mainland, YCYW will develop more educational programmes that meet China’s needs, thereby contributing to the cultivation internationally competitive talent.
During the exhibition, Ms Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, visited the YCYW booth. Dr Esther Chan, Deputy CEO (K-12 Education) of YCYW Education Network, explained YCYW's history of more than 90 years in the field of education and its developments and achievements in the Chinese mainland.
Vice Mayor Xie expressed her appreciation for YCYW's long-term commitment to international education and YCYW’s remarkable achievements in Shanghai. She encouraged YCYW to continue to expand its educational impact in the Chinese mainland and promote the international development of China's education industry.
Mr John Lee Ka Chiu, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, also visited the Hong Kong Services Pavilion and had a discussion with Dr Esther Chan. He highly praised YCYW's unique appeal as a representative of the Hong Kong SAR education industry.
At this year’s expo, YCYW showcased the breadth and depth of its global educational network through multimedia presentations, interactive exchanges, and stories from across its community of schools.
YCYW offers students endless possibilities for the future through diverse academic pathways for higher education, a curriculum that integrates Eastern and Western pedagogies, and a holistic philosophy centred on cross-cultural understanding. YCYW has thus demonstrated how education can transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.
The event highlighted a new development. Since August 2025, Yew Chung International School of Shanghai has introduced the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) programme.
The introduction of the HKDSE programme, a key component of the education system in Hong Kong SAR, has provided more educational options and pathways for Hong Kong SAR students residing in Shanghai, as well as for other students hoping to pursue further studies in Hong Kong SAR. This initiative reflects YCYW’s ongoing commitment to promote educational exchanges and collaboration between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR.
The YCYW exhibition booth attracted visitors from the fields of education, technology, and culture. Many parents and industry partners remarked that YCYW’s educational practices demonstrate the potential of “localising international education, and internationalising local education”—a guiding principle that YCYW has pursued for more than nine decades.
The YCIS Shanghai Interstellar Choir and the YWIES Shanghai Lingang Musical Ensemble delivered captivating performances at the expo. The Interstellar Choir performed A Better World, and used the pure voices of children to convey the power of unity, kindness, and hope. In addition, the YWIES Shanghai Lingang Musical Ensemble presented Yew Wah’s Greatest Show, a dynamic song-and-dance performance showcasing the students’ creativity and stage charisma.
The YCYW Education Network now spans Hong Kong SAR, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Qingdao, Yantai, Tongxiang (Zhejiang), Silicon Valley (in the US), and Somerset (in the UK) to create an educational community connecting the East and the West, and integrating diverse cultures.
From the classroom to the world stage, YCYW has consistently used education as a bridge connecting diverse cultures, generations, and futures.
In an era of globalisation and innovation, YCYW will continue to uphold its educational philosophy integrating Eastern and Western approaches in order to nurture a new generation of young people with cultural roots and a global outlook, thus ensuring that the power of education will illuminate a brighter future.
