It is located in Manhattan, New York City—the heart of the world’s art scene, For more than 70 years, SVA has led the education and cultivation of artists, designers, and creative professionals.
At SVA, students become part of a vibrant community with 1,100 faculty members and a global network of more than 40,000 alumni. The school offers 11 dynamic BFA majors, including 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Advertising, Animation, Cartooning, Design, Film, Fine Arts, Illustration, Interior Design (Built Environments), Photography & Video, and Visual & Critical Studies.

Students have opportunities to engage with commercial projects, international exhibitions, and internships.
Leveraging its professional strength and industry reputation, SVA has become a “dream school” for art students worldwide, and it has long been a target school for the higher education of YCYW students interested in art.
Each academic year, SVA admissions officers visit YCYW campuses to give presentations explaining application criteria, programme specifics, and portfolio expectations. SVA professors also provide portfolio reviews on site, offering students expert guidance to inspire their creativity and strengthen their applications.
Together, YCYW and SVA co-host the Summer Art Portfolio Programme, taught in person by Professor Renyi Hu of SVA, at the fully-equipped YWIES Shanghai Gubei (YWAD) .
In this summer school programme, students gain insights into life at a top-tier art institution, develop diverse portfolio projects, and receive personalised advice about possible university pathways. These experiences can significantly enhance the students' chances of admission and scholarship success.

Through its well-established art education system and personalised university guidance, YCYW continues to nurture outstanding students and send them to SVA. YCYW students enter world-renowned institutions with confidence and emerge on the global stage as leaders of art and design.
Taking YWAD as a prime example:
Class of 2023: 5 offers of admission from SVA
Class of 2024: 7 offers of admission from SVA
Class of 2025: 5 offers of admission from SVA
Class of 2026: 3 offers of admission from SVA (as of April 2026)
The majors of those offered admission have included: Fine Arts, Illustration, Graphic Design, Photography, Game Design, and Animation.
Crystal Zhu (Class of 2023) transitioned with 13 years of experience in sports to the art world with no prior formal training in the field. At YWAD, she transformed her unique perspective into a compelling portfolio centred on female empowerment and social narratives.
As a result, she gained admission and a scholarship to SVA’s Graphic Design programme, as well as offers from ArtCenter College of Design (ACCD), University of the Arts London (UAL), and Kingston University. During an on-campus presentation by SVA admissions officers, Crystal was inspired by SVA’s commercially oriented design philosophy, and ultimately chose SVA.
Crystal shared her reflections on studying at SVA: “At SVA, there’s never a dull moment, the campus buzzes with activities. Beyond festive parties, SVA frequently hosts art competitions, student exhibitions, and talks by renowned artists or alumni. Life here is so rich that it can sometimes feel overwhelming, yet deeply fulfilling.
Every day, I shuttle between galleries, classes, and lectures, exhausting as it may be, my horizons are constantly expanding. Not only have I discovered what truly excites me, but I’ve also made friends from various artistic fields, accumulating valuable insights and practical experience.
These experiences are offering me the most authentic guidance and preparation for my future career path. My time at SVA has been demanding but utterly worthwhile.”
Timmy Lin (Class of 2025) gained admission to SVA’s Illustration programme because of his sensitive brushwork and socially conscious storytelling. He applied to programnmes in both the UK and the US, and received 10 offers from top schools, including Parsons School of Design, University of the Arts London (UAL), and the University of Edinburgh, as well as total scholarships of more than RMB 2.7 million yuan.
Timmy’s work innovatively blends painting with digital media, mixed media, and other techniques. When he was at school, he continuously pushed beyond his creative comfort zone in his artistic practice and enriched his social experiences. His art, rooted in empathy and social responsibility, excelled both in techniques and concepts, and impressed admissions panels across continents.

When selecting a school for his further education, Timmy was particularly attracted to SVA by the art work and the teaching style of its alumni. Moreover, SVA offered him a significant scholarship. After he learned that an illustrator whom he truly admires teaches at SVA, this became a decisive factor in his choice to study at SVA.
Now in his first year at SVA, Timmy shared these comments: “The professors are incredibly kind and supportive, offering expert knowledge and thoughtful feedback. Class size is small, and the pressure isn’t overwhelming, so we’re learning in a relaxed manner. We’re encouraged to explore freely across media, I’ve tried collage, woodcut printing, and more. It’s been a lot of fun!”
This newly established SVA Dormitory Scholarship for YCYW students is not only a formal recognition of YCYW’s excellence in arts education, but also marks a new chapter in the deeper cooperation between SVA and YCYW. It is a milestone in our shared commitment to cultivating arts education and nurturing creative talents.
The good news is that all 11 YCYW students we recommended to SVA this year have received the SVA Dormitory Scholarship. The students are from YCIS Beijing, YCIS Shanghai Puxi (Gubei Campus), YWIES Guangzhou, YWIES Shanghai Gubei (YWAD), and YWIES Shanghai Lingang, and they have received scholarships totalling US$440,000.
From regular campus exchanges and personalised academic and creative mentorship, to now offering exclusive financial support, YCYW and SVA are jointly building an ideal pathway for the advancement of arts education. This partnership ensures every student gains direct access to world-class resources and opportunities.
