As Yew Chung and Yew Wah schools welcome the new academic year, students from the following campuses received the results of their June 2025 IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams this week: YCIS Hong Kong, YCIS Shanghai, YCIS Beijing, YCIS Chongqing, YCIS Qingdao, YWIES Shanghai Lingang, YWIES Shanghai Gubei, YWIES Guangzhou, YWIES Yantai, YWIES Beijing Yizhuang, and YWIES Zhejiang Tongxiang.

The students sustained the outstanding performance of previous years and laid a solid foundation for next year. Thirty-seven YCYW students achieved outstanding results of 9 A*/A or above, including 16 who attained exceptional grades of 10 A*/A or above. Overall, nearly two thirds of all the grades awarded were A*-B. It is especially worth noting that the inaugural cohort from YWIES Beijing Yizhuang sat the IGCSE Mathematics exam one year early, and all of the students in the cohort achieved an A*/A.

We invited several high-achieving students to share how they had prepared for the IGCSE exams. Learning is never a solo journey. In their heartfelt reflections, we learn about their personal dedication and the irreplaceable support of teachers, family, and friends. The stories of these students will inspire all of us during the new semester.

We invite you to explore the inspiring journeys of these outstanding students and discover the strategies behind their success--

    IGCSE: 10 A*

I am so grateful for my IGCSE results and would like to thank all my teachers for their incredible support throughout the journey. Preparing for the exams was a challenging, but also rewarding experience, and I learned so much along the way—not just about the subjects, but also about managing my time and staying resilient. It was inspiring to see how hard everyone worked, and I feel proud to be part of such a dedicated and encouraging school community. These results will motivate me to keep striving for improvement, and I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges at YCIS.

I hope my experience can encourage others to believe in themselves and make the most of all the learning opportunities our school offers.

    IGCSE: 10 A*/A

I'm incredibly happy that I was able to achieve such a score. I can't thank my teachers, friends, and family enough for all the support they have given me… It makes me feel as if all that hard work had paid off, and it's a significant boost of confidence going into IB.

It will serve as a gentle reminder for me that I will always see the light at the end of the tunnel as long as I don't give up.

    IGCSE: 10 A*/A

The process was a marathon rather than a sprint. After the mock exams, I began to consistently revise class material.

In the weeks leading up to the IGCSE exams, I focused on past exam papers and practice material from the question banks. Concentration during these sessions made a considerable difference, and I removed electronic gadgets from my room to help me concentrate on my studies.

My YCIS teachers were invaluable. Beyond teaching content and exam techniques over the past two years, they actively supported my revision in the months leading up to the exam. Well ahead of time, the teachers all emphasised time management and structured revision, which motivated me to start early and pace myself. In addition, they provided revision resources, and, marked my past papers with detailed feedback and explanations. This guidance deepened my understanding of the examination, and most certainly made a significant difference to my results.

The new school year is not only a chance to reap the rewards of two years of hard work; it also marks the start of the next stage of my journey. I'm delighted with my results, and, more importantly, the experience has motivated me to work even harder as I begin IBDP. With YCIS's support, I'm confident to take on the challenges ahead.

    IGCSE Maths: A*

I was constantly on edge during my preparation, but the full support from the principals and teachers helped me gradually find my rhythm.

After the exams, I checked answers and estimated scores with my classmates. This atmosphere of mutual sharing and growing together gave us great confidence to achieve these results.

Mr Malcolm Harrison, Western Co-Principal of YWIES Beijing Yizhuang, praised the performance of the school's first IGCSE cohort. "Taking on the IGCSE Mathematics challenge a year early and achieving A*/A grades fully demonstrate the students' academic potential and the outstanding teaching capabilities of our faculty. This achievement not only validates the effectiveness of the Yew Wah learning pathway but also empowers students to confidently embrace future international curricula," he said.

As we look ahead to the new academic year, the confidence fostered by these IGCSE results should inspire all students starting the IB, the A-Levels, or further IGCSE studies. The outcome will encourage our students to achieve even more.
