We are excited to introduce "The Story of Extra-terrestrial Visitors" programme, a captivating and educational series of lectures designed to explore the fascinating world of small celestial bodies and their impact on Earth and other planets. Led by esteemed experts in the field, the programme aims to ignite curiosity, deepen scientific understanding, and inspire a sense of wonder about the mysteries of our universe. Over the course of three lectures, students will delve into topics such as potential impacts, instrument design and data interpretation, meteorites and their effects, and the intriguing world of comets. Selected students will be invited to embark on actual scientific research projects in conjunction with Sun Yat-Sen University to explore science deeper. This enriching journey will explore the wonders of space, delve into thought-provoking discussions, and foster a passion for scientific exploration. Join us as we unravel "The Story of Extra-terrestrial Visitors" and unlock the secrets of our cosmic neighbours.
Have you ever looked at the sky and pondered the stars?
Have you ever wanted to know about other mysterious planets and celestial bodies that exist in the universe beyond our Earth?
Have you wondered why asteroids "visit" Earth and whether they might carry clues to extraterrestrial life?
Planetary science, an ancient yet ever-evolving discipline, has developed over centuries--from the initial observations of the planets in our solar system by ancient scientists, to the in-depth exploration since our entry into the space age. The goals of planetary science are to search for extraterrestrial signals of life and habitable environments; to prevent celestial bodies from hitting the Earth; and to explore the origins and evolution of the solar system.
