A Year in Review: 2025 & The Journey Ahead

    News

    05 Jan, 2026

    18 : 12

    Dear Readers:

As 2025 draws to a close, the world continues to restructure amid uncertainty, and artificial intelligence (AI) advances at an unprecedented pace. This drives us to ponder: In the wave of algorithms reshaping our world, what are the irreplaceable core competencies that young people need, while still preserving the uniqueness of each individual during such a massive transformation?

In 2025, YCYW has chosen to preview this transformation—by not only imagining the contours of future education, but by also building its prototype in reality. From the intellectual exchanges among educators at the AI in Education Forum, to the in-depth discussions between teachers and students on "servant leadership" at the Future Leaders Workshop; from the emotional resonance of the Seeds of Hope, to the practical demonstration of East-West educational integration on the international stage of CIIE.Using real-world scenarios as our laboratory, we have previewed the core competencies of future humanity, composing a "prelude" where reality and future intertwine.

In 2025, we witnessed countless "irreplaceable" moments: AI can solve complex problems, yet the cross-disciplinary dialogue between artists and business leaders at the "Planet Leadership Series" still sparkled with intellectual brilliance; Although there are countless virtual games online, children still experience passion, collaboration, and emotion on the sports field and at concerts and musicals.

The philosopher Socrates said that education is not about filling minds, but rather about kindling flames. In 2025, YCYW put this philosophy into action. We preview future capabilities while safeguarding human kindness; we embrace technological transformation while remaining steadfast to the original purpose of education. May these stories from 2025 become our shared memories, illuminating the path forward.

    • 01 Emotional Resonance: Preserving Human Kindness in the Digital Age

On 1 March, the 2025 Seeds of Hope Concert took place in Guangzhou. A total of 250 teachers and students from YCIS and YWIES campuses across the Chinese mainland performed with 12 students from Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Together, they presented a performance that blended the beauty of Chinese and Western music and resonated with the audience.

    • In October, during the National Day holiday, the YCYW Seeds of Hope programme partnered with The Expatriate Centre (TEC) and launched a service trip. Fourteen students from YCYW schools in Shanghai visited Linshan Township Central School in Kaihua County, Quzhou.
