Learn from Home Parent-Child Series Supporting young learners and their families to achieve holistic learning

As the pandemic continues to impact schools in Hong Kong, all face-to-face classes have now been suspended by the government. Parents are under immense pressure to strike a balance between work and family, whilst hoping to motivate their children to continue their learning at home. With an aim to better support parents, Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE), the first and only tertiary institution of early childhood education in Hong Kong, is organising a free online learning programme ‘Learning from Home’ series starting from next Tuesday, 1 March 2022. This programme features a series of interesting topics and activities to help families thrive during these challenging times.

Curated by the College’s early childhood education professionals, 12 fun-filled sessions focusing on areas including COVID 19 Care, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), wellness at home, literacy, numeracy and creative arts will be delivered. Parents and caretakers can benefit from all the content and immediately apply it in their everyday lives. The programme also helps children to build their intellect and creative skills, as well as strengthening the bonds between parents and their children. In addition, parents will be able to learn home teaching techniques and ways to care for their children's physical, mental and spiritual health.

Learning from Home online learning sessions will be available on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2-2.30pm from 1 March to 12 April. The 30-minute lessons will be delivered live over Zoom where participants can interact with the presenter and other viewers.

Additionally, the College will host 12 five-minute “Parent-Child DIY Fun” short video on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2pm from 2 March to 7 April where parents can unleash their children’s creativity by learning to make a variety of crafts at home with their children using simple and common household items.

In other words, YCCECE will be keeping company with parents and children in March and April to facilitate learning from home. For those who cannot join the live sessions, playbacks will be available on the College website.

“The College hopes to help ease the pressure on parents during the home learning period through this engaging online series specially designed to achieve a holistic development for children,” says Professor Allan Yuen, President of YCCECE.

Learn from Home is a free online learning programme open to all. Please call TEL 3977 9877 to enquire or register via https://www.yccece.edu.hk/event/learn-from-home.

About Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education

The Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) is an accredited non-profit degree-awarding institution registered in Hong Kong under the Post-Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap. 320), with charitable status under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. It is the first and only higher education institution in Asia specialising in Early Childhood Education (ECE), invested wholly in this exciting foundational field.

YCCECE’s predecessor, the Yew Chung Community College (YCCC), made history in 2014, as the first private higher education institution to provide formal teacher training in Hong Kong with the launch of its Higher Diploma in ECE (HDECE) programme. In 2018, YCCC was transformed into YCCECE with its flagship Bachelor of Education (Honours) in ECE (BEdECE) degree programme. This milestone represented a full-circle in Yew Chung’s near 90-year history, with the completion of a novel ‘B to B’ (Babies to Bachelor) education spectrum.

YCCECE is deeply committed to nurturing new generations of passionate and inspired ECE professionals, who will have an enduring impact on the lives of numerous young children and their families, growing a better future together.
